Many people think that it is great that I am able to do what I enjoy as a job, but that’s just what they perceive. Having to stand for hours, paint on top of a ladder and get into all kind of awkward positions is what makes it very challenging. Most of the time, I would ache all over the next day after painting for an entire day. Some jobs have to be done after the mall is closed and that is when all the air conditioning is shut and the space gets really stuffy.
But with all that is said, I still wouldn’t give it up for something else. Honestly, I don’t know what else I can do. I am super grateful that there are companies and organisations who are so willing to engage my services - always calling me back to do another project/ passing my contact on to someone else. To date, I have not made a phone call to anyone asking them for a job. I count all my jobs a blessing and am determined to do them all well.
“Today’s ceiling is tomorrow’s floor”
Aim to do the best today and in the present. That’s how skill is honed. With that said, I can’t wait to be back at Manulife Center’s Food Republic tomorrow night to start on the 2nd stall!
More updates coming up :-)
My latest mural is going to be in the estate of Elias, Pasir Ris! I had a meeting with the good people of Elias Community Center and they are the hipest bunch of community workers ever!! What started out as an afternoon of Tote bag stamping ended up with a discussion on doing a mural for their newly opened facility for the elderly in the neighbourhood.
So this is my very first (super happy!) mural in the East!! Just doing up some quick sketches and adding the colours in.
Can’t wait to be on-site painting this on the exterior walls, together with the folks!
More updates coming right up!
Recently, I started a collaboration with Plumbum. Vincent Cateigne is the singer of the performance duo and I get to draw and visualise his songs as be plays and sings live! I especially love his soulful folk acoustic tunes, which are all original compositions written in French! Our performance is going to be in November and Im so excited to do this!
On Sunday 8th Feb, The residents of Blk 25 Teban Gardens threw a celebration for the completion of their Lift Upgrading. It was a rousing celebration in the afternoon where the residents gathered for song and dance, tote bag stamping, paper marbling, mural painting and high-tea!
Such activities always bring me back to days of old where neighbours would gather over food and drink and do a communal activity together. In recents times, neighbours have become more hostile and usually keep to themselves. That is why I always enjoy creating art for such events - even I as an east-sider feel very welcomed by the residents in this neighbourhood!
Here are some pictures of the day’s programme.
Just 2 days away from the mural painting event with the residents of Teban Gardens, I came down to site to draw in the outlines. Every space is special because the deaign differs with the activites that happens there. Here are some images of the walls I will be painting on. Am so thankful for the commitee who volunteered to whitewash the walls for me, saving me alot of time and energy!
This mural painting activity will be happening on Sunday 8th Feb 2015 from 3-5pm. If you’re around the area, feel free to come join in the fun!

I visited Polkaros home studio last week and had a very delicious healthy homecooked lunch cooked by the artist herself! After that, she prepared fun painting activity where I could design my own character and paint it on the handcrafted pots she has prepared. Sharing an afternoon like this makes me treasure the relationship I have with fellow artist friends ~ to me, creators are one of the most brilliant people around. Thank you for sharing so much insights with me. This is one of the highlights of my wintery Tokyo 2015 trip!
I just got a call last week while in Tokyo, requesting for a mural on a CC exterior wall! I love working on these public spaces as I get to see my artworks being actualised instead of just being on my sketchbook.
So the theme for this work is SG50 ~ which is such a broad theme. So I proposed nostalgic games and multi-cultural friendship. What a fun theme to work on! Here are some initial sketches I’ve done. Gonna lay them out & ink them in tomorrow.
I have been sitting on the idea of making comics for a long time now but have never had the stamina to finish anything. One story requires so many drawings and I always give up when the story isn’t finished yet.
So now, I’ll do a single frame type of conversational graphic novel. Drawing inspiration from my life, I shall attempt to illustrate my emotions and thoughts.
The beginning of a journey taken by myself. I pray that even though I walk alone, I will find good friends and partners that will share great memories together.
I’ve recently started a Mslatenightjam Artist page at www.facebook.com/mslatenightjam.
THANK YOU all 300 of you lovely people for following! I have been traveling the past couple of weeks and when I return home, the studio will start production again! Going to be a busy 2015 with many more local and international murals to do!! In the meanwhile, here’s a small preview of what has been going on in Tokyo!
